Liptov is No. 1 destination for tourists in Slovakia in summer and winter.

Due to its nature, thermal springs, wide choice of sporting possibilities, numerous cultural and historical sights, active ways of spending free time and possibilities for relax, Liptov region is popular with Slovak and foreign tourists.  


LIPTOV is a unique region in the north of Slovakia which touches the Polish border in its north-east . LIPTOV has one of the most picturesque sceneries in Slovakia, being surrounded High Tatra Mountains, Western Tatra Mountains and Choč Mountains in the north, Low Tatra Mountains in the south, Veľká Fatra in the west and Popradská Basin in the east.

Popular attractions and activities in Liptov are cross- country skiing and downhill skiing in winter, hiking, cycling and also water sports as well as caves and numerous thermal and mineral springs or water dam Liptovská Mara.

All region is especially rich in historic buildings, you can come across in a number of Liptov villages. The most remarkable architecture sights are the remains of medieval castles (Likava, Liptovský Castle).

Folk architecture sights can be found in villages like - Vlkolínec (UNESCO), Pribylina, one of the biggest wooden buildings in Europe is wooden church in Sv. Kríž. Another cultural and historical attractions of Liptov are for example Havránok, Shepherd Museum in Liptovský Hrádok, Gallery of P. M. Bohúň in Liptovský Mikuláš or the towns of Liptov themselves - Liptovský Mikuláš, Ružomberok and Liptovský Hrádok.

Most of the Liptov region is mountainous, rich in forests and nature beauty. Three Slovak National Parks with the highest protection degree are comprised in Liptov region: Tatra Mtns National Park, National Park Low Tatra Mtns and National Park Veľká Fatra.
