Orava region

Orava region is situated in the north-west part of Slovakia bordering with Poland, with Malá Fatra, Choč Mountains and Western Tatra Mountains – Roháče, it is a paradise for hikers and cyclists.

Cross country skiing routes in Skorušina Mountains and Oravská Magura are popular with ski lovers not only from Slovakia but also from abroad. The area of Zuberec and Kubínska Hoľa provide great conditions for downhill skiing.

 

The most precious historical sight of Orava is Orava Castle, towering on the rock above the river Orava. Many beautiful sistorical sights can be found in almost every village of the region.  

 

Folk architecture can be admired in many villages of Orava region. Museum in Nature in Zuberec and The reserve of Folk Architecture in Podbieľ belong to the most precious ones. Wooden churches in Tvrdošín, Leštiny and Istebné are unique sacral sights of the region.
